- Harry wasn't dead! He was in Europe! That explains everything!
- Actually it doesn't. Because he died in an ambulance in continuity 13 years ago. And it doesn't mention where his wife Liz went or his son Normie went. So, right there, Marvel's "everything that happened still happened" thing is blown out of the water. I know they de-aged the cast, and that's probably where Harry's marriage and kid went, but you have to give some explanation to the die hards.
- And the "everything will be explained...later" tact is not going to work. The reason why Countdown was drubbed because things took too long to develop. When you're paying $9 a month for a comic story, you want your questions answered quick.
- Take the movie Harry's relationship to Peter/Spidey, add it to Lex Luthor's relationship with Lionel Luthor on Smallville and voila! You have Brand New Harry! Originality by
stealingcombining two other famous characterizations. - Man, that whole "some people remember Spider-Man unmasking during the Civil War, but nobody quite remembers what his face looks like" is the heighth of stupidity. He is a famous NYC vigilante, his picture has sold countless copies of the Daily Bugle, and people recognize him. They would remember if he unmasked who he was, especially if he was the photographer who took all those Daily Bugle pictures. And does this mean Mephisto wiped out all copies of the newspapers covering of the unmasking? All of the what surely must be hours of videotape covering the unmasking? All mentions of it on the Internet are gone too? Because there would be ways to check something if you don't remember it. They would have been better off if they said the whole unmasking never took place.
- Speaking of Civil War and the unmasking, the reason why Peter unmasked was bacause of the bond that grew between him and Tony Stark. They trusted each other and developed a father/son mentorship. So, we are saying that Tony Stark now doesn't know Spidey's identity? And he wouldn't be suspicious as to why? Especially when he used mass hypnosis to cover his secret identity years ago? Peter is still a criminal, and an unregistered vigilante. He could be dangerous. Tony Stark would try to track down his identity. Or, at least based on his characterization in Civil War he would.
- Besides, I always thought that "register with the government, reveal your identity to the world" think was daffy. They don't publish the names of CIA recruits, do they?
- And I think that Marvel is keeping him unregistered to make it easy for the new creators to use the classic "Spidey wanted by the police" cliche.
- Also, the reversion back to mechanical webshooters was done to bring up the old "no money for web fluid" and "web fluid running out at inopportune times" cliches. I guarantee Spidey running out of web fluid will become a plot point sooner rather than later.
- Daredevil doesn't know his identity either? So, Daredevil has never met Spidey and/or Peter? Because, as I remember, he found out Peter's identity because he and Spidey had the same heartbeat. Maybe he just forgot it. Or maybe Mephisto just changed Peter's heartbeat when he's not Spidey.
- And what's with the Peter Parker not having any money? His best friend is rich! He has at least enough money to buy The Coffee Bean? What, they are best friends but Harry still won't lend Pete any money? Or give him a job at the Coffee Bean? I bet they are going to play the whole "I don't want to borrow money from friends" thing, but in the real world, friends help friends out. I've both borroed and lent money to friends. Seems unrealistic that Harry wouldn't do the same thing for Pete.
