Heartbreaking News

News has hit the web that Terry Pratchett has been diagnosed with early on set Alzheimer's Disease.

I was first introduced to Pratchett through Good Omens, the book he did with Neil Gaiman. This quickly became my favorite book of all time. From that, I soon discovered his Discworld books. Let me tell you, if you like epic fantasy mixed with social commentary mixed with flat out funniness, pick up any of Pratchett's books.

Alzheimer's Disease is the one sickness that truly scares me. If I ever got it, I'd greet it with abject terror, panic and fear. Terry Pratchett, judging on his statement announcing his disease, met it with grace, humor and even optimism. I hope I can use his bravery as an example.

My heart and thought go out to him. He, as his statement repeats, isn't dead yet. But he is one of my favorite authors and I wish him strength and courage with the battle he has ahead.
