Sad News: Mike Wieringo R.I.P.

Newsarama reports that comics creator Mike Wieringo has died of a heart attack. He was 44.

When I first saw Wieringo's art, I didn't like it. I thought it was too cartoony. But as I read more books that he worked on (Flash, Fantastic Four, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man) I grew to appreciate his style more. He was a solid storyteller and was good at portraying emotion in his characters.

As fans, we come love our favorite creators. They touch our lives and become special to us. We mourn their passing as if they were family. I don't know if Mike had any family, but he had friends who loved him. Among others, Matt Haley, Mark Waid, Todd DeZago, Karl Kesel, and Peter David, all who had worked with him at one time or another, express their shock and disbelief. My condolences go out to all of them, to Mike's other fans, and to his family.
