I'll admit, I have fanboy-ish tendencies. When it comes to comics, I pick on a miniscule subject, some small thing I consider wrong, and become so irritated by it that I have to rant about it. I hope I do it intelligently and objectively, but sometimes it does slide into the realm of mindless fanboy griping and complaining.
In my internet travels, two of the blogs I read most often have over the past two days have come across the worst that fanboy ranting has to offer.
Over at this post at Occasional Superheroine, Valerie D'Orazio reprints a post from an action figure collecting message board about somebody complaining that female Marvel superhero action figures just aren't sexy enough.
Yes, he is complaining that the little plastic representations aren't bootylicious enough. Click the above link if you don't believe me.
This is just a tad bit scary. A) that anybody would really get that worked up about a toy and B) there are plenty of other sexy (and sexist, let's be honest) comic related toys for people of this ilk to go and buy and scotch guard. Let him buy more of those. So the Marvel Legends doesn't float his boat. I collect them and they are just fine with me. I do not need them to be hoochied up.
And at BeaucoupKevin(dot)com, Kevin Church lists some responses to the new Knight Rider movie. People aren't happy. They don't like the make of car, they don't like the model of car, and they are vocal about it.
I have to say, I do have a fondness from my childhood about Knight Rider. I mean, what kid wouldn't love a show about an indestructable talking car that had a turbo boost option? The new version lost me when they gave the car the Transformer power. But I have come to realize, just as Valerie did earlier this month (smart girl, that Valerie), NBC is not remaking these things for us long time fans. They are making them for the young kids and teens of today. "The Transformers movie was popular! Let's make KITT transform! Then more kids and members of the 18-34 age bracket will watch and we can make more money from advertising when the series arrives!" If they keep enough of our demographic happy, then that's just gravy.
